The witness Riggs wanted to silence
Leo Getz enters as a federal witness forced under Riggs and Murtaugh's protection, and every joke irritates them. He explains how the gang launders money and leads the pair to the South African group. After surviving an attempt on his life, he helps Murtaugh stage a scene at the consulate that draws anti-apartheid protesters. Later he is kidnapped by Rudd's men, and the duo go to the harbor to rescue him. He knows how the scheme works because he has laundered money for drug smugglers, which is why he becomes a federal witness.
