Quick recap

England, 1120. The sinking of the White Ship kills the heir to the throne and paves the way for war between Stephen and Maud. Mason Tom Builder drifts with his family in search of work until he reaches Kingsbridge, where Prior Philip wants a new cathedral. Around the build circle Aliena and her brother Richard, who lose everything when their father, Earl Bartholomew, falls; the Hamleighs, who want the earldom; and Waleran Bigod, who plays everyone. Tom's stepson Jack becomes the cathedral's builder. In the end, accused of killing Alfred, Jack stands trial and is saved by his mother, Ellen, who proves Waleran set up his father's death. The crowd hangs William Hamleigh, Waleran falls from the cathedral roof, and Philip remains prior.
