Quick recap

After wealthy Richard Abernethie's funeral, the family gathers for the reading of the will. His youngest sister, Cora, blurts out, “But he was murdered, wasn't he?” Everyone laughs. The next day Cora is hacked to death with a hatchet at home. The family lawyer, Mr Entwhistle, turns to Poirot. The detective joins the household under a cover story and meets the heirs, all short of money. Sister-in-law Helen feels something was off at the funeral but can't place it, and she's attacked. Poirot finds that the woman at the funeral wasn't Cora at all but her companion, Miss Gilchrist, in disguise. She planted the suspicion and killed Cora over a valuable painting.
