Quick recap

Robb Stark marches south to free his father and, with a daring move, captures Jaime Lannister. In King's Landing, Ned agrees to confess to save his daughters, but Joffrey ignores his mother's counsel and has him executed before the crowd. Arya escapes the city in disguise, and Sansa is left a Lannister hostage. At the Wall, Jon is tempted to desert to avenge his father, but his friends bring him back. Across the sea, Daenerys loses Drogo and their son. The volume, and the first book, ends with the northerners proclaiming Robb King in the North and Daenerys walking out of Drogo's funeral pyre with three newborn dragons.
