Dragon Ball Super: Universe Survival Saga, vols. 5–9

The two Zenos hold the Tournament of Power: eight universes, ten fighters each, on a stage where falling off means elimination. Losing universes will be erased. Goku builds Universe 7's team from old friends, Androids 17 and 18, and even Frieza, revived for one day by Fortuneteller Baba. The biggest threat is Jiren of Universe 11, a silent fighter stronger than the gods. Universes are knocked out and erased one by one during the fight. Goku reaches Ultra Instinct, a state even gods struggle to master, and fights Jiren to the end. Universe 7 wins with Android 17 as the last one standing, and he uses the Super Dragon Balls' wish to bring back the erased universes. Frieza ends up revived for good.

1. Behind the scenes"Jiren doesn't talk"

Toriyama's draft said nothing about Jiren's personality. The anime staff pitched a talkative hero of justice, and Toriyama replied that "Jiren is a character who doesn't speak," sending a tragic backstory along with it.

2. Behind the scenesCorrected by Toriyama

Toriyama corrected Toyotarou's introduction of Jiren in chapter 30. It's the only Toriyama drawing of Jiren ever made public. He let the staff flesh out the Pride Troopers.
