On a rescue mission to the Sun rigged by Lex Luthor, Superman absorbs too much solar radiation. He's stronger than ever, but his cells are dying and his time is short. Instead of hiding, he sets out to settle what matters: he tells Lois the truth, gives her powers for a day, takes on Herculean challenges, looks after Kandor and visits Smallville, where he loses his father, Jonathan Kent. Lex is sentenced to death but takes a formula that gives him Superman's powers for 24 hours. In the end, seeing the world the way Superman does, Lex gives up, and Superman flies into the Sun to fix it, leaving Earth safe and Lois waiting for his return.
