Susan Plummer

The only one who knew who he was

Susan Plummer is McCall's former DIA colleague and closest friend. Melissa Leo plays her in the first two films. She is the one who feeds him information and the only one who calls him by his old name.

The Equalizer

Help from a distance

Susan and her husband Brian show up when McCall asks for help understanding the enemy. She identifies Teddy as Nicolai Itchenko, formerly of the USSR secret police with a Spetsnaz background, and explains the oligarch Pushkin's operation. Despite the risk, she confirms to her old friend what he needs to hit the operation. What she does opens the way for McCall to follow the money. She also warns about the Boston cops on the gang's payroll: two who failed to kidnap McCall were murdered, and a third disappeared.

Brussels

In the second film, Susan helps McCall and helps the elderly Sam recover a painting that connects him to his sister. Later she and Dave York investigate in Brussels the death of an agency affiliate and his wife. In a hotel room, Susan is killed by a knife strike that looks like a robbery. McCall sees it was a targeted killing. Her death triggers all of the film's revenge. She and Dave York are the two who travel; McCall suspects the crime precisely because of the knife strike's precision.

Her daughter

Susan doesn't appear in the third film, but her name returns at the end. Emma Collins, the CIA officer who receives McCall's tip and helps bring down the Altamonte scheme, has a photo on her desk that reveals the truth: she is Susan Plummer's daughter. In the note she receives with a book of contacts, McCall writes that her mother would be proud.
