Steve Stifler

The friend nobody invites but everyone needs

Stifler is the team's star, the host of the parties and the engine of the gang's trouble. Rough, but loyal, he gets more room with every film. Seann William Scott plays him in all four main films.

American Pie

The party host

Stifler is the lacrosse player who throws the party where the pact is born. He's cruel to his friends: he plays a nasty prank on Finch in the school bathroom and talks Jim into turning on the webcam. Even so, his lake house hosts the post-prom party. There Stifler finds out what's going on between Finch and his mother and faints. It's the film where he comes across more as a villain than as a friend. He's also the reason the pact exists: at Stifler's party the four learned that a classmate, Chuck Sherman, claimed to have lost his virginity. Later it turns out Chuck was lying.

The summer of mishaps

In the beach house summer, Stifler is still the engine of mishaps. He enters the house they're painting to prove a theory of his and drags Jim and Finch along. He brings the group adult videos, and the mix-up that follows ends up sending Jim to the hospital. Even so, the friends end the summer together, at the party he helped throw.

American Wedding

Learning to dance

Stifler is left out of the wedding plans, but crashes the engagement dinner and strikes a deal: he'll teach Jim to dance in exchange for the invitation. In Chicago, at a bar, he wins a dance-off against Bear and wins over the crowd. To impress Cadence, he pretends to be as polite as Finch while Finch pretends to be like him. When he ruins the wedding flowers, he stays up all night to redo them with help from his high school football players. He's forgiven and dances with Cadence at the wedding.

American Reunion

The forgotten friend

At the reunion, the friends try to avoid Stifler, but he shows up anyway. He works a job he doesn't love, under a boss who treats him badly, and feels his life stalled in high school. When the four confront him, Stifler himself reminds them they've ignored him for years. They feel guilty, visit him at work and apologize. He stands up to his boss and quits. In the end he's offered a job as a wedding planner.
