Josh Lambert

In 1986, young Josh is haunted by the spirit of a woman in a black wedding dress. His mother, Lorraine, calls psychic Elise Rainier. Elise sees that the boy leaves his body in his sleep and that it draws in bad things. The fix is to hypnotize him and wipe the memories. Josh grows up knowing nothing.

As an adult, Josh moves into a new house with Renai and the kids, and Dalton falls into an unexplained coma. Josh doesn't believe in ghosts and throws Elise out, until he sees his son's drawings. She tells him the truth: Dalton got his father's gift and is trapped in the Further. Josh is hypnotized, goes in, makes his way past the spirits and saves his son from the red-faced demon. There he faces the old woman who haunted him as a child. Both wake up. But when Elise takes his picture, Josh kills her. What came back in his body was the old woman.

The family moves into Lorraine's house, and Josh's body, taken over by the spirit of Parker Crane, slowly rots. Parker was the Bride in Black killer, who murdered on orders from his dead mother. Meanwhile, the real Josh wanders the Further with Elise and Carl. Since time there doesn't run in a straight line, he even talks to his 1986 self. The possessed Josh attacks the family. Dalton goes into the Further to help, Elise destroys Parker's mother and Josh gets his body back. Carl wipes father and son's memories again.

Nine years later, Josh is divorced, his mother has died and he can barely talk to Dalton, who's leaving for college. Remembering nothing, he starts seeing the spirit of his father, Ben Burton, who he thought had walked out on the family. He learns his father could leave his body too, thought it was madness and killed himself in a psychiatric hospital. Renai tells him what happened ten years earlier. When Dalton gets trapped in the red-faced demon's lair, Josh goes into the Further, frees his son and holds the red door shut so he can escape. His father's spirit guides him back. On the way he runs into Elise. Father and son make peace.
