Gale Weathers

Gale wrote a book claiming Maureen Prescott had affairs and that Cotton Weary was jailed by mistake. Sidney hates her. During the party at Stu's house, she and Dewey grow close. When she crashes her news van fleeing the killer, she seems out of the game. But she comes back, distracts the killers and shoots Billy. At dawn she's back in front of the camera, reporting on the night.

Gale's book became the movie Stab, and its premiere brings a new Ghostface. She heads to Windsor for the story and tries to stage a live run-in between Sidney and Cotton Weary, which goes nowhere. There she runs into Dewey again. In the end, when Dewey is taken away by ambulance, Gale chooses to ride with him instead of filing the story.

Gale goes to the Stab 3 set and finds Dewey dating the actress who plays her. Together with that actress, Jennifer, she uncovers Maureen's past in Hollywood. When it's over, Dewey proposes, and she says yes.

Married to Dewey and back in Woodsboro, Gale can't find anything to write. She digs into the new killings against her husband's wishes and sneaks into the Stab-a-thon, where she's stabbed in the shoulder. She and Dewey figure out Jill in time to race to the hospital.

Gale and Dewey have split. She comes back to Woodsboro for the story and loses Dewey at the hospital. At Stu's house, alongside Sidney, she shoots Amber. Afterward she decides not to write about the new murders and writes a tribute to Dewey instead.

Gale goes to New York to help the Carpenter sisters. She finds the theater turned into a Ghostface shrine. The killer breaks into her apartment, kills her boyfriend and attacks her. Sam and Tara arrive in time, and Gale ends up in the hospital. It's the first time she faces Ghostface with neither Sidney nor Dewey around.

Now with Chad and Mindy as her assistants, Gale rushes to Pine Grove when Sidney is threatened. She runs down the first masked man and interviews Sidney live to draw out the killer. At the end, she lets Mindy report the night's news.

Courteney Cox plays Gale in every film, a record for an actress in a horror franchise. She was Monica on Friends at the time and lobbied for the part precisely to play someone very different.
