Edmund Pevensie

The middle brother who fell for the Witch's offer

Edmund is the third of the Pevensie siblings. Sulky and jealous of his older brother Peter, he starts the story picking on everyone. In Narnia he gets it badly wrong, and the rest of his life is about what he does with that.

Turkish delight

Edmund follows Lucy through the wardrobe and runs into the White Witch. She gives him enchanted Turkish delight and promises to make him king if he brings his siblings. Back home, he lies that he was never in Narnia. When all four return together, he slips out of the Beavers' house and goes to the Witch's castle to tell her where his siblings are. There he becomes a prisoner and learns what she really is. Right in front of him, Mr. Tumnus is turned to stone for helping Lucy.

King Edmund the Just

Rescued by Aslan's soldiers, Edmund talks with the lion alone on a rock, away from the others. When he comes down, Aslan tells his siblings that what's done is done, and Edmund apologizes. He doesn't know the lion died in his place. In the battle, he sees the Witch going after Peter and smashes her wand, the one that turns enemies to stone. He's badly hurt and saved by Lucy's cordial. He's crowned King Edmund the Just.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

The ice cracks

In Prince Caspian, Edmund is the one who backs Lucy most. In the ruins of Cair Paravel, he's the only one who brought a flashlight from England, and during the raid on Miraz's castle he climbs the tower to signal with it. When a group of Narnians tries to bring the Witch back through a wall of ice, Peter and Caspian nearly give in. Edmund, who knows that voice all too well, comes from behind and shatters the ice with his sword.

The last temptation

Back in England, Edmund tries to enlist and gets turned away for being too young: he misses being a king. On the Dawn Treader, he needles his cousin Eustace and argues with Caspian over who's in charge. On one island, a pool turns everything to gold and he nearly gives in to greed. On the Dark Island, the mist uses his worst fear: the Witch, offering him what he wants once more. Edmund holds firm. At the world's end, Aslan tells him he won't come back to Narnia.
