Planes

Dusty Crophopper is a crop duster in a small Minnesota town who secretly practices aerobatics and dreams of racing. With help from his pal Chug and mechanic Dottie, he qualifies for the Wings Around the Globe Rally, a round-the-world race. Skipper, an old Navy plane, becomes his mentor, and Dusty beats his fear of heights. Ishani, an Indian racer, betrays him for a new propeller. Dusty crashes in the Pacific, is repaired by his rivals and finishes the race. He passes Ripslinger at the last second and wins.

1. ChangeIt was meant for home video

   Planes was set to go direct-to-video in the US, with a theatrical release only in Europe. In December 2012, Disney decided on theaters. It was the first Disneytoon Studios film in US theaters since Pooh's Heffalump Movie, eight and a half years earlier.

2. ReferencePremiere at an air show, with a real Dusty

   The film premiered on August 2, 2013 at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh in Wisconsin, a gathering of aviation fans. Disney brought a real-life Dusty, an Air Tractor AT-400A flown by its owner, crop-duster pilot Rusty Lindeman.

3. CameoJon Cryer almost played Dusty

   Jon Cryer was announced as Dusty's voice before Dane Cook took over. Cryer kept a credit for "additional story material". Skipper and Sparky come from the Cars Toon "Air Mater", with the same voices, Stacy Keach and Danny Mann.
