Quick recap

Sophie Beckett is an earl's illegitimate daughter living as her stepmother Araminta's maid. In 1815, she sneaks into Lady Bridgerton's masquerade ball, dances with Benedict and flees at midnight, leaving a glove behind. Benedict vows to find her. Two years later, he comes to the aid of a housemaid who seems oddly familiar, not knowing she's the same woman. They fall in love at his cottage, but Benedict, a viscount's son, asks her to be his mistress, not his wife, and Sophie refuses. Eventually he figures out who she is. Her stepmother accuses her of theft and has her arrested. The Bridgertons step in, Araminta's scheme comes out, Sophie is acknowledged as a Penwood relation, and she marries Benedict.
