Quick recap
John Matthew, the mute boy the Brotherhood took in, has grown into a warrior. He carries memories that aren't his: he is Darius, the dead Brother, returned with a different face. John loves Xhex, a half-sympath warrior who keeps him at arm's length. The lesser Lash, son of the Omega, abducts Xhex and holds her captive. As the Brotherhood searches, John confronts Darius's past and his own. Xhex escapes and wants revenge on her own terms. In the end, she kills Lash, and John and Xhex are mated.
