Lyric nearly dies one night in Caldwell, and a stranger shields her with his own body. Her family, especially her sire, Qhuinn, is relieved, but Lyric can't stop thinking about her rescuer. She seeks out Devlin despite the rule against humans and vampires mixing, and they're drawn to each other at once. Both want something short-term, until a betrayal tears them apart. Meanwhile the Brotherhood hunts a traitor, and hard truths come out. Lyric must decide whether the forbidden can be forgiven. The publisher doesn't reveal the ending, and we leave it out here.
