Artemis Fowl: The Arctic Incident

Artemis's father is alive, held by the Russian Mafia in the Arctic. Meanwhile, goblins armed with banned tech attack Haven, and the LEP suspects Artemis. Once cleared, he makes a deal with Commander Root: he'll help find the weapons supplier in exchange for help rescuing his father. Behind it all are Briar Cudgeon and pixie genius Opal Koboi, who plan to kill Root and seize the city. With Holly, Butler and Mulch Diggums, Artemis breaks into Koboi Laboratories, Foaly exposes the betrayal, Cudgeon dies and Opal blacks out. In Murmansk, the team rescues Artemis Fowl I, who loses a leg but comes home. Artemis ends the book admiring his father and his new allies.

   Here, Briar Cudgeon teams up with Opal Koboi in a goblin rebellion to seize Haven. The movie pulls that alliance into the first story: the screen Cudgeon is already working for Koboi during the siege of the manor.

   In the book, Holly heals Artemis's father but can't restore his lost leg, and leaves him at a hospital in Helsinki. In the movie, he comes back to Fowl Manor in one piece, brought by the Aculos's magic.
