Quick recap

Years after The Countess of Cagliostro, Raoul d'Avenac, who is Lupin, looks into a man's death and a threat to a young woman, in a plot involving an inheritance and a young man suspected of murder. Bit by bit he realizes the whole thing was set up from afar by Joséphine Balsamo, the Countess of Cagliostro, who planned her revenge on him before she died. Lupin has to work out what his old enemy set in motion and who she used to do it. The book settles the score of Lupin's first love and stirs up his past.
