Quick recap

Edward, the monster killer, calls in an old favor: Anita has to come to New Mexico and help on a case. There he lives as someone else, Ted Forrester, with a fiancée and her kids, and Anita sees a side of him she never knew. People are being flayed and mutilated, and the victims who survive are worse off than dead. Edward brings in two dangerous hunters, Olaf and Bernardo, and Anita trusts neither. The investigation runs through a vampire who presents herself as an Aztec goddess and something older still. Anita, one of Edward's few friends, never knows if he'll stay on her side to the end. Lots of violence, little romance.
