Quick recap

D.C. detective and forensic psychologist Alex Cross heads to North Carolina when his niece Naomi goes missing. Several college women have vanished, taken by a masked man who calls himself Casanova. Dr. Kate McTiernan is abducted, breaks out of his underground lair and leaps off a cliff into a river. A sedative leads Cross to plastic surgeon William Rudolph in California, a second killer, the Gentleman Caller, who competes with Casanova. Cross finds the hideout, rescues the women, Naomi included, and kills Rudolph in a chase. Casanova gets away. Cross spots that his handwriting matches Detective Nick Ruskin's signature and races to Kate's house. With gas leaking, he shoots Ruskin through a milk carton so the shot won't spark.
