Quick recap

Early in the crisis, engineer Cheng Xin proposes the Staircase project, run by the cold Thomas Wade: send a human spy to the enemy fleet. Only a brain will fit, and she asks for Yun Tianming's, a dying classmate secretly in love with her. Cheng hibernates and wakes two centuries later, rich and chosen to hold the truce button in Luo Ji's place. Her choices weigh on the fate of humanity and the solar system. Yun returns with fairy tales full of hidden messages. The book jumps millions of years ahead, to the end of the universe itself. In the end, Cheng has to decide what to give back to the universe so it can be reborn.
