Bond earns his 00 status with two kills and soon makes a headline-grabbing mess in Madagascar. He gets to Le Chiffre, a banker to terrorists who lost his clients' money and has to win it back at a high-stakes poker game at Casino Royale in Montenegro. The British Treasury sends Vesper Lynd to watch Bond's stake. The two fall in love. Bond is nearly poisoned, wins the game with help from Felix Leiter, and is captured along with Vesper. Le Chiffre tortures him for the account password but is killed by Mr. White of a mysterious organization. Bond resigns to be with Vesper, until he learns in Venice that she handed over the money to save his life. Vesper drowns. Bond tracks down Mr. White and shoots him: "Bond. James Bond."
