Quick recap

Cybertron is lost to the Decepticons, and Optimus Prime sends scout B-127 to Earth to set up a base. In 1987 California, he's attacked by Sector 7, and by the Decepticon Blitzwing, who rips out his voice box and damages his memory. B-127 wins the fight and disguises himself as a yellow Volkswagen Beetle. Charlie Watson, grieving her dad, gets the car, fixes it and finds the robot inside, whom she names Bumblebee. Without meaning to, she sends out a signal that draws the Decepticons Shatter and Dropkick. Sector 7 captures Bumblebee and Dropkick kills him, but Charlie revives him with an electric jolt. Bumblebee destroys Dropkick at a radio tower, and Shatter dies when a dam floods. Saying goodbye, he becomes a 1977 Camaro and reunites with Optimus.

  2. ReferenceThe look came from G1

Knight drew on the original Generation 1 designs and picked the 1980s setting because of the cartoon from that era. That's why the Cybertron robots look like the classic toys.
