The ley line energy that feeds the dreamers is fading. Ronan, Hennessy and Bryde travel trying to strengthen it, and Ronan starts to see a more dangerous side of his own power. Declan and Matthew deal with what they have learned about their family. Carmen sticks with the Moderators, alongside the visionary Liliana, and the mission starts to weigh on her. Adam, at college, tries to keep his life apart from Ronan's world. The choices made on all three fronts cost a lot, and the book ends with Ronan in a situation his brothers and friends will have to fix.
