Quick recap

Almost ten years later, Thomas runs a mercenary company and lives at Castillon with Genevieve and their son, Hugh. Hired by a count to bring back his runaway wife, Bertille, he does the job, gets cheated and holds the count himself for ransom. The Earl of Northampton sends Thomas to find la Malice, the sword Saint Peter supposedly used in Gethsemane, which Cardinal Bessières is also hunting. The count's men seize Genevieve and Hugh, and a priest blinds one of her eyes before they are rescued. Thomas joins the Black Prince's army, cornered by the French. At Poitiers he hits the French from behind with the Captal de Buch, and the English win. Thomas takes la Malice, kills Bessières with it and then gets rid of the sword.
