Quick recap

Now Oak tells the story. Held prisoner by Wren in the Citadel, he tries to escape and talks a guard into removing the golden bridle. To head off a war, he announces he will marry Wren, but she, worn down by her own magic, calls it off on the voyage to Elfhame. Oak learns that the Ghost, his spy friend, helped his father poison his mother. New poisonings get Wren blamed, and the storm hag Bogdana, who holds Wren's mortal sister Bex hostage, strikes. At the climax, Wren absorbs Bogdana's storm and collapses; Oak brings her back by telling her he loves her. She gains wings and returns north. Oak gives up being heir, goes to her castle and asks her to marry him. She says yes.
