Quick recap

Pike returns to command the Enterprise knowing about the accident that will leave him paralyzed years from now. With him are Spock, Number One, security chief La'An Noonien-Singh, cadet Uhura, Nurse Chapel and Dr. M'Benga. Each episode is a self-contained mission: new planets, anomalies and moral dilemmas. Along the way, the Gorn emerge as predators Starfleet barely understands, and engineer Hemmer dies after being infected with Gorn eggs. Spock tries to balance his fiancée, T'Pring, with his feelings for Chapel. In the finale, a future Pike shows him what would happen if he dodged his fate, and Pike accepts his path. Left open: Number One is arrested for hiding that she's Illyrian.

Hidden details

  1. ReferenceBalance of Terror again

The finale, "A Quality of Mercy", replays the setup of the Original Series episode "Balance of Terror": a duel with a Romulan ship at the Neutral Zone. The difference is who sits in the captain's chair.

  2. ReferenceThe Gorn before Kirk

The Gorn debuted in 1967's "Arena", in a famous fight with Kirk. Strange New Worlds brings them back far scarier, as predators Starfleet barely understands.
