Langdon is in Prague with his girlfriend, noetic scientist Katherine Solomon, who is about to publish a book on human consciousness. A bomb hoax and the death of scientist Brigita Gessner put the couple in the Czech police's sights. Langdon meets Sasha Vesna, a patient with a brain implant, while a killer called the Golem strikes. Behind it all is Threshold, a secret CIA-linked lab run by Everett Finch, built on ideas stolen from Katherine's thesis. Finch dies when the Golem blows up the lab, and the Golem turns out to be one of Sasha's personalities. Katherine's book comes out, with cuts, and she tells Langdon she loves him.
