Quick recap

Erak, now Oberjarl and fed up with paperwork, leads one last raid on Arrida and is taken hostage. The news reaches Halt and Pauline's wedding celebration, and the Skandian Svengal suspects a rival faction led by Toshak. Cassandra persuades her father to pay the ransom and heads into the desert with Will, Halt, Horace and Gilan. In a sandstorm, Will loses his horse, is rescued by the Bedullin and wins Tug back in a race. The group learns Erak is held at Mararoc, but the Tualaghi, led by Yusal, capture them all, and Toshak reveals his betrayal. At the execution, Will, the Bedullin and the Arridi strike. Erak kills Toshak, and the heroes head home. Later, Will graduates as a Ranger.
