Almost a year after the battle in New York, Percy is alone and memoryless in northern California, running from monsters. Guided by the wolf Lupa, he reaches Camp Jupiter, home of Roman demigods. Juno presents him as a son of Neptune, and he can only regain his memory by passing trials. Percy befriends Frank, a son of Mars, and Hazel, a daughter of Pluto. The trio gets a quest to free Thanatos, the god of death, held by a giant in Alaska. The trip takes them all the way to Alaska. Meanwhile, the Roman camp prepares for a battle that threatens everything.
