Filler arc. Koby and Helmeppo, now Marine recruits, get into trouble and blow up a building with a cannon shot. Assigned to escort Helmeppo's father, Morgan, to trial before Vice Admiral Garp, they watch the ex-captain escape with Helmeppo as a hostage. Koby throws himself in front of a cannon to save his friend, and Helmeppo finds his nerve. Garp takes both to headquarters and trains them hard. When he learns they're friends with the pirate Luffy, he tests them in a fight and decides to keep it quiet.
