ABC's revival ran 2 seasons and 35 episodes, from 1988 to 1990. It came out of the 1988 writers' strike: unable to commission new scripts, the producers reworked old ones and shot in Australia, where it was cheaper. In the first episode, an assassin kills Jim Phelps's protégé and successor, and Phelps comes out of retirement to catch the killer. Peter Graves returns as Phelps and leads a new team: Nicholas Black, Max Harte, Casey Randall and Grant Collier, son of Barney, who himself drops by in a few episodes. The tape gives way to an optical disc with a thumbprint reader. Casey dies on a mission and is replaced by Shannon Reed. A time-slot move sank the ratings, and the show ended after season 2.
