On holiday on a Caribbean island, Miss Marple endures Major Palgrave's endless stories. One is about a man who killed his wife, and the major even pulls out a photo to show her, then sees someone over her shoulder and puts it away. The next day he's dead. Marple doesn't buy natural causes. She gains an unlikely ally in the cranky millionaire Jason Rafiel. The maid, Victoria, is killed, and a guest drowns. Marple realizes the wife killer is Tim Kendal, the friendly hotel owner, and that his next victim is his wife, Molly. She and Rafiel get there in time to save her.
