Full story

Kamala Khan is 16, lives in Jersey City with her Pakistani family, draws superhero fan art and is Captain Marvel's biggest fan. She dreams of going to AvengerCon in a killer costume, but her parents say no. Kamala sneaks out with her best friend, Bruno, wearing a golden bangle her grandmother Sana sent from Pakistan. Onstage, the bangle unlocks her powers: Kamala creates hard-light constructs and ends up wrecking the costume contest. The Department of Damage Control starts investigating.

Kamala trains with Bruno and starts having visions of a mysterious woman. At Eid she saves a boy falling from a statue and makes the news. Kamran, a new kid she has a crush on, introduces her to his mother, Najma. Najma leads the ClanDestines, a group of Djinn exiled from another dimension, the Noor. She says the bangle can take them home and that Kamala's great-grandmother Aisha was one of them. Kamala gets suspicious and refuses, and the ClanDestines attack at her brother Aamir's wedding.

The trail takes the family to Karachi. There Kamala meets Kareem and the Red Daggers, a group that has watched the ClanDestines for generations. During a fight, the bangle sends her back to 1947, during the Partition of India. She sees Aisha flee with her little daughter, Sana, and die at Najma's hands. Kamala realizes she herself was the light that guided her grandmother to her father that night. Back in the present, Najma opens the Noor Veil and sacrifices herself to close it, leaving her powers to her son.

In Jersey City, Damage Control hunts Kamran. Agent Deever locks down the city. Kamala puts together a suit from pieces her mother made and a mask from Bruno, and with Nakia, Zoe and Aamir she holds off the agents inside the school. Deever defies an order to stand down and is suspended. Kamran manages to escape the city.

After a talk with her father, Kamala takes the name Ms. Marvel. Bruno discovers she has a genetic mutation the rest of her family doesn't. In the credits scene, the bangle glows and Kamala swaps places with Carol Danvers. That comes back later.
