Full story

Jessica Jones tried being a hero once and quit. Now she's a private investigator in Hell's Kitchen who drinks too much and uses her super strength to kick in doors and catch cheaters. A couple from the Midwest hires her to find their daughter, Hope Shlottman, a missing college student. Jessica finds Hope in a hotel and recognizes the signs: Kilgrave, a man who can control anyone with just his voice, is back. Jessica thought he was dead. In the past, he controlled her for months.

Still under his command, Hope kills her own parents in front of Jessica and goes to jail. Jessica sets out to prove Kilgrave exists so she can get Hope out. She has help from her adoptive sister, radio host Trish Walker, and from lawyer Jeri Hogarth, who has her own agenda. Jessica also gets involved with Luke Cage, a bar owner with unbreakable skin. But she's hiding something heavy: under Kilgrave's control, she killed Luke's wife.

Kilgrave turns New York into a game board. He spies on Jessica through her neighbor Malcolm, whom he got hooked on drugs to keep him obedient, and sends ordinary people after her. Police officer Will Simpson, a former soldier, is forced to try to kill Trish and later becomes an ally, until he starts taking red pills that make him dangerous and unstable. Jessica builds a sealed room to trap Kilgrave and actually catches him, but the plan falls apart. She learns she's now immune to his voice, and Kilgrave becomes even more obsessed with her.

Things get worse. Luke learns the truth about his wife and walks away. Hogarth uses Kilgrave in a divorce fight, and her ex-wife ends up dead. Kilgrave's father, a scientist, boosts his son's power, so he can now control people from farther away. Hope, seeing no way out, takes her own life in prison so Jessica will stop trying to save her and just take him out.

In the end, Kilgrave takes control of Luke and uses him against Jessica. Then, at the pier, he holds Trish hostage and orders Jessica to say she loves him. She pretends to obey, gets close, and snaps his neck. Jessica is arrested, but Hogarth gets her released. Luke is out of the picture, being treated. At her office, the phone won't stop ringing with people asking for help, and Malcolm answers for Alias Investigations.
