The Luxen have invaded Earth, and Daemon, Dee, and Dawson have gone with them. Dawson captures Katy and takes her to the invaders' hideout. In front of their leader, Rolland, Daemon acts like he only wants Katy around, which keeps her safe. Dee is under the invaders' control. Katy and Daemon escape with help from Nancy Husher of Daedalus. The government plans an electromagnetic pulse over Los Angeles, and Daemon pitches another way: bring the Arum into the war. Katy brings Dee back to herself. The invasion's leader is Ethan White, head of Petersburg's Luxen colony, and Katy kills him. The Arum turn the battle. In the end, Nancy shoots at Katy, Daemon takes the hit and survives. The epilogue jumps 11 months ahead to a life that's almost normal.
