Quick recap

Kingsbridge, 1792. Spinner Sal Clitheroe's husband dies in an accident caused by Will Riddick, the squire's son. Driven out of the village, Sal and her son Kit go to work at Amos Barrowfield's mill. Amos has inherited a business sunk in debt to the ruthless Joseph Hornbeam. Machines take jobs, war in Europe drives up food prices, and the mill owners go after workers who organize. Elsie Latimer, the bishop's daughter, loves Amos, who doesn't notice. It all builds to Waterloo, where Kit carries messages between Wellington and the Prussians. In the end, Hornbeam throws himself from the cathedral, Amos and Elsie marry, and Spade becomes an MP who fights for workers' rights.
