Quick recap

In Newarre, Kote, keeper of the Waystone Inn, is recognized by Chronicler: he is Kvothe, the legendary musician and arcanist said to have killed a king. Kvothe agrees to tell his life story over three days. On the first, he recounts growing up in an Edema Ruh troupe, learning music and sympathy. His father looks into the Chandrian, and they slaughter the whole troupe. Kvothe spends three years begging in Tarbean, enters the University, makes a rich enemy in Ambrose and falls for Denna. Chasing word of the Chandrian, he investigates a massacre at a wedding and fights a draccus. That night Bast threatens Chronicler: he wants the story to bring back the man Kvothe was. The book ends with Kote waiting to die.
