Quick recap

January 1, 1990, at a motel in North Carolina. A two-star general is found dead, with a prostitute, and the Army wants it quiet. Reacher, still in uniform, is ordered to contain the crisis. But the general's missing briefcase changes everything: inside is something the Army must recover. Reacher follows leads that run well past the motel, as far as Paris, and finds the case is bigger than the Army wanted. It is the first book in the series' chronology.
