Quick recap

Poirot gets letters signed ABC announcing murders by date and town. A tobacconist dies in Andover, a waitress in Bexhill and wealthy collector Sir Carmichael Clarke in Churston, each with an ABC railway guide by the body. Hastings, visiting, narrates, while separate chapters follow Alexander Bonaparte Cust, a muddled salesman who seems to be the killer. The fourth attack, in Doncaster, kills the wrong person in a cinema. Poirot works out that Cust was set up as a scapegoat. The real killer is Franklin Clarke, Sir Carmichael's brother, who staged the whole series to hide the one murder that mattered: his brother's, for the inheritance.
