Quick recap

Lithuania, 1941. Young Hannibal, born into nobility, watches the war reach his family's castle. Three years later, his parents die in an air strike, and he and his sister Mischa fall into the hands of six deserters, who take the girl to eat her. After a Soviet orphanage, his uncle Robert brings him to France to live with the Japanese Lady Murasaki. He kills the butcher who insulted her, becomes a medical student and, with Inspector Popil on his trail, hunts down Mischa's killers one by one. He kills their leader, Grutas, on a houseboat, and Murasaki leaves him. Arrested, he's released for lack of evidence, takes a residency in Baltimore and stops in Canada to visit the last name on his list.
