Quick recap

The story picks up at the exact moment it left off. Alastir, the king's adviser, kidnaps and tortures her over a prophecy naming her Atlantia's downfall. To save her, Casteel performs a forbidden Ascension, and she does not turn into a vampire. Poppy learns that Queen Ileana of Solis is Isbeth, the first Ascended, and her mother. The two visit Iliseeum to speak with Nyktos. At Redrock, Isbeth kills Ian in front of Poppy, and Casteel gives himself up to save her. The draken reveal that the caged cat, Ires, is her father. At the end, Poppy beheads King Jalara and sends the head to Isbeth with a message: free Casteel or face war.
