A giant machine-ship, the Big Gete Star, latches onto New Namek and enslaves the Namekians. Dende calls for help telepathically, and Goku, Gohan, Krillin, Piccolo and Vegeta head there. The leader is Cooler, Frieza's brother, who survived and was rebuilt as Meta-Cooler, able to regenerate. Goku and Vegeta, as Super Saiyans, beat one, but hundreds of copies appear. Both are captured so the ship's core can drain their energy. Goku and Vegeta release so much power that they overload the system, and Goku destroys Cooler's brain. Gohan and the others save the Namekians, and the planet is freed.
