The first film, an alternate take on the start. King Gurumes has been cursed into a purple monster with endless hunger, and he forces his people to dig for blood rubies. His henchmen, Pasta and Bongo, steal the Dragon Ball of Goku, who has just met Bulma. The two rescue a girl named Pansy and run into Oolong and Yamcha. On Master Roshi's island, Oolong fools the old man by turning into Bulma, and Roshi destroys the villains' submarine with a Kamehameha. At the palace, Goku's Kamehameha isn't enough against the giant king. Bulma throws the ball into his mouth, Shenron appears, and Pansy wishes for her land to be restored. Gurumes shrinks, and Goku leaves to train.
