Quick recap

After beating the Chin, Genghis looks west. His envoys are mutilated or killed, and the nation sets out on the longest journey in its history, against Shah Muhammad II of Khwarezm and his son, Jalal al-Din. Genghis splits his armies and sends his sons out as generals in several directions. The Mongols face armored war elephants, leave their camp, with its women and children, exposed after a setback, and raze cities such as Urgench and Merv. Jochi and Chagatai are in open rivalry, a murder follows, and Genghis has to name an heir before his sons tear apart what he built. The campaign runs from the Chin lands to the rocks of Afghanistan. In the end, the choice is made: Ogedai will be the next khan.
