Lloyd is a well-meaning, not very bright limo driver from Providence, Rhode Island. He lives with his best friend Harry and falls in love far too fast. Jim Carrey plays adult Lloyd. In the prequel, Eric Christian Olsen plays the teenage version.
Lloyd drives a passenger, Mary Swanson, to the airport and falls for her. She leaves a briefcase, and he tries to return it, not knowing it is a ransom. He loses his job after falling off the jet bridge. He talks Harry into taking the case to Aspen, and the two cross the country. When he finds the money, he helps spend all of it.
In the prequel, Lloyd has been adopted and returned several times until the school janitor, Ray, takes him in. On the first day of school he bumps into Harry and the two become friends on the spot. They help the principal set up a fake special class without grasping the scam. Here he is played by Eric Christian Olsen.
Twenty years after the first film, Lloyd is in a psychiatric hospital, apparently catatonic. When Harry visits, he finds out Lloyd has been faking it all along. The two hit the road again, this time to find the daughter Harry never knew he had.
Carrey's chipped tooth was real, from a childhood fight. He had since had it capped and had the crown removed for filming, according to Wikipedia.
