Kate Macer

In Chandler, Arizona, Kate and her partner Reggie Wayne lead a raid on a Sonora cartel safe house and find dozens of corpses in the walls. Outside, a booby trap kills two police officers. After that, Kate is recommended for a task force led by CIA officer Matt Graver and the mysterious Alejandro to catch a cartel lieutenant, Manuel Díaz. She accepts, thinking she is helping arrest a criminal.

The team travels to Ciudad Juárez to extract Díaz's brother. On the way back, a gunfight erupts in the border line, and Kate kills a Mexican federal officer in self-defense. She is shaken. Later she learns the real mission is to disrupt Díaz's business to reach the boss, Fausto Alarcón. Kate and Reggie want to leave, but she insists on staying to understand what's going on. Ted, a Phoenix cop, tries to strangle her, and Alejandro stops him.

In the tunnel operation near Nogales, Kate follows Alejandro into Mexico and tries to arrest him, but he shoots her twice in the vest. Matt explains the goal is to return the cartels to a single business, easier to control. The next day, Alejandro turns up in her apartment and forces her to sign a statement saying the whole operation was legal. Kate aims her gun at him, but she can't pull the trigger.

The task force raids a bank used to launder Díaz's money. Kate and Reggie want to file a case with the financial evidence they found, but they are ordered to stand down so the operation isn't jeopardized. At a bar, Reggie introduces Kate to a Phoenix police officer, Ted. The two end up at her apartment, and she realizes Ted works for the cartel. Alejandro and Matt beat him to get the names of other corrupt cops.

Kate Macer was created for Sicario (2015), with a script by Taylor Sheridan. Emily Blunt didn't return in Sicario: Day of the Soldado. On October 5, 2026, Deadline reported that she, Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin are back for the third film, which has no release date yet.
