Frances Neagley

The ex-sergeant who sorts out the chaos

Frances Neagley was a master sergeant in the Army military police and worked with Reacher in the 110th. Today she is a private investigator and the one person he trusts without a second thought. She talks little, writes everything down and never loses her cool. Maria Sten plays her in the series.

A real name

The name Frances Neagley belongs to a real person. She won a charity auction at a mystery-writers' event, Bouchercon, and Lee Child named the character after the winner. The book Bad Luck and Trouble carries a dedication "for the real Frances L. Neagley". In the books, she has a central role in that 2007 novel, and she is the person Reacher calls when he needs someone who never fails.

She arrives early

In the books, Neagley shows up later in the series. In S1 she reaches Margrave much sooner, when Reacher asks for help making sense of the town's scheme. With her, the case moves: Neagley sorts clues, demands details and takes no shortcuts.
