Ephraim Goodweather

Eph leads the response to the stalled plane at JFK. At first, the CDC treats it as an ordinary outbreak. He boards with Nora and finds dead passengers, worms and four survivors. His science can't explain what comes next, and only Setrakian seems to have answers. While colleague Jim Kent secretly works for the other side, Eph accepts the truth and joins the old man's fight. Kelly is turned. In the end, Eph and Setrakian burn the Master with sunlight, and Eph shoots his ex-wife, who escapes.

With the team set up in Fet's Brooklyn loft, Eph and Nora bet on a scientific way out. Kelly, now the Master's hunter, goes after Zach with help from the Feelers, blind children who track humans. Eph spends the season trying to stay a step ahead of his ex-wife. In the last episode, vampires derail the train Eph, Nora and Zach are fleeing on. Kelly infects Nora and takes the boy. Nora makes peace with Eph and kills herself on the third rail.

Losing Nora leaves Eph out for revenge. He works on a bioweapon against the strigoi and never stops looking for Zach. In the end, Kelly attacks him in Palmer's office, and he kills her in self-defense. Zach, enraged, sets off the nuclear bomb. Eichhorst takes the boy, and Eph heads into the chaos after his son.

Nine months later, Eph is resisting in Philadelphia with Alex and Jason. In the last episode, the Master tries to move into Zach's body. Eph attacks him and ends up possessed, but still manages to arm the bomb. Zach sets it off, and the blast destroys the Master and the boy. It is the ending for a father who spent the whole series trying to save his son.

Corey Stoll wears a hairpiece in S1. Del Toro said in 2014 that Eph's look would change later, for a story reason.
