Debbie Ocean

Debbie is freed after years in prison with the big job already drawn up. She reunites with her old partner Lou Miller and picks the target: Cartier's $150 million Toussaint necklace, to be worn at the Met Gala in New York. Debbie knows she needs a famous actress to wear it and a crew nobody expects. She has it all drawn up before she steps outside.

Debbie and Lou pick specialists: Rose, a fashion designer in tax debt; Amita, a jeweler; Nine Ball, a hacker; Constance, a pickpocket; and Tammy, a suburban mother who fences stolen goods. The actress Daphne Kluger, the Met Gala's host, becomes a piece of the heist without knowing it. During the night, Daphne gets sick, the necklace is taken apart and carried out in pieces. Daphne works it all out and joins as the eighth member.

Debbie has a personal score: the art dealer Claude Becker betrayed her and sent her to jail. She manipulates Daphne into bringing Becker to the gala and plants a piece of the necklace on him. Becker is arrested, and money from the sold jewels lands in an account in his name. The necklace was only part of the job: Lou and Yen also stole the royal jewels on display at the museum, worth more, swapped for Amita's replicas.

Rose becomes Daphne's stylist and, with Amita, scans the necklace at Cartier to make a cubic zirconia replica. Tammy lands a temporary job at Vogue to get the guest list. Lou enters the gala as a nutritionist, and Nine Ball opens a blind spot in the museum's security. Debbie drives it all, and on the night the crew moves as one.

Insurance investigator John Frazier, who already knew the Ocean family, suspects Debbie, but the cameras show her far from the necklace. The crew hands over Becker, and Debbie closes the plan. In the end, she and the others move on: Amita to Paris, Rose to her own store, Nine Ball to a pool hall, Daphne to film directing.

Debbie Ocean was created for Ocean's 8 (2018), directed by Gary Ross, and is the sister of George Clooney's Danny Ocean. Sandra Bullock plays her. The film was the first in the series with an all-women lead cast.
