Quick recap

Sir Phillip Crane, a widowed botanist in Gloucestershire, needs a mother for his 7-year-old twins. He's been writing to Eloise Bridgerton, 28, and proposes without ever having met her. In 1824, Eloise slips away from home to see Romney Hall and finds that the kind man from the letters is gruff, quiet and not the least bit romantic. The twins cause chaos, the two argue and slowly grow closer. Then the Bridgerton brothers show up, furious, and demand a wedding. Eloise and Phillip learn to understand each other, she wins over the children, and the arranged match becomes a love match.

What changed on screen

  1. ReferenceHours after book 4

The story starts just hours after Romancing Mister Bridgerton ends. That's why Eloise doesn't yet know the secret revealed at the end of that book.

  2. Behind the scenesAn out-of-period stamp

The original cover shows a postage stamp. It's an anachronism: the book is set in 1824, and the UK didn't introduce stamps until 1840.
